Η Νομική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus ανακοινώνει την προσφορά του καινούργιου Προγράμματος Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) από τον Οκτώβριο του 2015. Το Πρόγραμμα μπορεί να συμπληρωθεί σε ένα (full-time) ή δύο χρόνια (part-time). Έχει αναγνωριστεί από επαγγελματικούς φορείςτης Αγγλίας και της Ουαλίας, το Solicitors Regulation Authority και το Bar Standards Board.
Το πρόγραμμα ενδιαφέρει όσους προσανατολίζονται προς μια δικηγορική καριέρα στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Σε αυτή την κατηγορία συμπεριλαμβάνονται απόφοιτοι πανεπιστημίου, που έχουν συμπληρώσει σπουδές εκτός Νομικής και που θα ήθελαν να μεταπηδήσουν σε νομικές σπουδές. Το GDL αφορά επίσης απόφοιτους νομικών σχολών που δε διαθέτουν πτυχίο νομικής από Αγγλικό πανεπιστήμιο και τους οποίους το πτυχίο δεν αναγνωρίζεται από το Solicitors Regulation Authority και το Bar Standards Board. Το LLB στο UCLan Cyprus είναι αναγνωρισμένο πτυχίο νομικής, αφού έχει αναγνωριστεί από το Solicitors Regulation Authority καιτο Bar Standards Board.
Ο Δρ. Tim Potier, Πρόεδρος της Νομικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου UCLan Cyprus ανέφερε ότι: «Το GDL χαίρει ιδιαίτερης εκτίμησης από τους δικηγόρους στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο. Έχει μια μακρά παράδοση στην «παραγωγή» κάποιων από τα καλύτερα νομικά μυαλά του επαγγέλματος. Με τον κλάδο της Νομικής να αλλάζει, όπως και πολλοί άλλοι κλάδοι, λόγω της αυξανόμενης παγκοσμιοποίησης, οι επαγγελματίες του τομέα αποκτούν ολοένα και πιο διεθνή προοπτική. Γι’ αυτό το λόγο, το GDL προσφέρει την ευκαιρία σε νεαρούς επαγγελματίες να αναπτύξουν τις γνώσεις τους και να αυξήσουν τα δικά τους ή τα κέρδη της εταιρίας στην οποία δουλεύουν. Αυτό ισχύει για όσους δικηγορεύουν στην Κύπρο αλλά και στο εξωτερικό».
Το πρόγραμμα δεν αναγνωρίζεται από το Κυπριακό Νομικό Συμβούλιο. ‘Όμως, ένας φοιτητής που συμπληρώνει επιτυχώς το GDL και μετά το Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, τηρεί τους κανονισμούς του Κυπριακού Νομικού Συμβουλίου, και δικαιούται να ασκήσει τη δικηγορία στην Κύπρο.
New Program, Graduate Diploma in Law, by the Law School of UCLan Cyprus
October 2015 sees the commencement of a new course in the Law School of UCLan Cyprus, the Graduate Diploma in Law (or GDL). The course can be completed in one year (full-time) or two years (part-time). The course at UCLan Cyprus is recognised by the professional bodies of England and Wales: namely, the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board (respectively the regulatory bodies for solicitors and barristers in England and Wales).
The course is likely to be of interest to those persons considering a future career, as a lawyer, in the UK (subject, for non-UK nationals, to rights of employment and residency in the UK). This includes non-law graduates who wish to convert to legal studies and law graduates lacking a qualifying law degree (LLB); that is, one professionally recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board; from an English or Welsh university. The LLB at UCLan Cyprus is a qualifying law degree; it being recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board.

With the law, like so many other professions, changing, on account of increasing globalisation, its practitioners becoming ever more international in outlook, this course provides an excellent opportunity for newly-qualified lawyers to take some time off to enhance their knowledge and, therefore, their and/or their firm’s earnings potential. This is true for those working as lawyers both in Cyprus and overseas.”
The course is not recognised by the Cyprus Legal Council. However, a student who successfully completes the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) in the UK after the GDL is entitled, upon successfully meeting the requirements of the Cyprus Legal Council (for entry into the profession), to pursue a career as a lawyer in Cyprus.
